Perth Scorchers beat Adelaide Strikers by 6 wickets

MOM: Ashton Agar

  • That is all for this game, but do not go anywhere - the Sydney Derby is on its heels!
  • The inaugural Jason Gillespie Trophy is handed over to Ashton Turner. He thanks everyone, especially the staff which was extremely hospitable. Praises the Strikers for their wonderful campaign so far.
  • Ashton Agar admits that the Scorchers were not sure what was a par score on this wicket, Credits the Strikers for fighting hard and bowling well. Is proud of his team mates for stepping up in the absence of skipper Adam Voges. On the pitch, he says that it was definitely slow but the outfield looked even slower as the ball was not running away. On his bowling, he feels that experience has helped him do better in T20 cricket. Is confident of making it to the final and even winning it!
  • The Strikers did really well to try and make a fist of this 'MODEST' total. They had the Scorchers on the ropes as well but no one could support Rashid Khan who was exemplary for his 4-0-15-1. Neser picked up 2 wickets at the start but was not penetrative enough.
  • Top of the table spot then, for Perth Scorchers. Andrew Symonds aptly puts it, not the easiest of games for either side but perhaps the Scorchers read the wicket a bit better. After the Strikers struggled with the bat, they had a hold on the Scorchers at 43/4 in the 9th over but the unbeaten 71-run stand between Hilton Cartwright and Ashton Agar shut the door upon them. Perhaps, had the former's wicket been taken and Peter Siddle not overstepped, we might have had a competitive finish but it was not to be.

Cartwright has been caught but SIDDLE HAS OVERSTEPPED! Oh dear... a Full ball on the pads, Cartwright flicks it uppishly but finds the fielder in the deep at mid-wicket! The catch is taken but the umpire signals a no ball for overstepping! And yes, replays confirm the same! ow, there is some confusion. Replays clear it out for us. Ashton Agar has completed the run, going past Cartwright, but the striker has gone towards the dug out from the halfway mark. Then, he has seen the umpire's signal, has pumped his fists but has not completed the run! He goes back to the striker's end and no Agar hugs him. Then both realize that the ball is not dead and it is coming to the keeper! Agar now rushes back to the non-striker's end. Phew.
